- Nice cozy environment as the Wimbledon brunch is quite small
- Food is really good with the steak being cooked nicely
- There is room for improvement but generally speaking it is alright
- Steak houses are generally quite expensive so you expect cooking perfection in return
- We had a selection of meats as a starter which was good
- Service was really with most of the staff smiling and being polite
- It gets quite busy even on weekdays so it is recommended to book in advance
- All in all, if you happen to be in Wimbledon and want a steak then Buenos Aires will be a good choice
Having stumbled across this place whilst looking for a late lunch spot for a family reunion we were pleasantly surprised.
Lunch service was long over so we were the only guests in, which means I can't comment on usual service - ours was impeccable. We ordered a mix of starters to share, the calamari was perfectly crisped without over cooking and the batter light. The steaks were all cooked as requested and the cuts delicious. Extra chimichurri was also provided, which is a bonus! Polished off with a beautiful, full bodied Malbec (Luigi Bosca 2011) we had absolutely no complaints. Like most decent steakhouses, this didn't come cheap, but I'd comfortably rate the steak as in the same league as some of the better known, upmarket London places.
Buenos Aires in Wimbledon is a decent steak house with a good selection of meat and wine on offer, which is only let down slightly by erratic service. If you're a sausage fan then you simply have to go for the grilled sausage platter to start. It arrives on a slate tile with 3 very different, succulent varieties of sausage and some black pudding. These are no greasy spoon ingredients but quality produce, cooked just right and the black pudding in particular is slightly grainy and full of flavour. I loved it!
I chose the charrasco de lomo for my steak - medium rare - with a side salad and blue cheese sauce. The steak was perfectly cooked and just the right size at 12oz for my hearty appetite and is served with a sprinkle of pink salt. Unfortunately they forgot to bring first my salad and then sauce, both of which I had to remind them of.
They have an impressive selection of wines and a sub section devoted entirely to the Argentinian Malbec which is great to see. We went for the Casa Marguey which is extremely smooth and the perfect companion to the meal.
The dulce leche cheesecake to finish was divine.
The restaurant itself is all dark wood interior, candle lit tables and period photographs on the wall and is an ideal location for an intimate rendezvous.
All in all not the best steak I've ever eaten but by no means the worst either and a solid 3.5/5.
